Pinnaplasty/Ear Correction
Many children suffer teasing at school and adults suffer embarrassment from this relatively common deformity.
Ear growth achieves almost adult size by early school age therefore the prominent ear deformity (“bat ears”) appears more obvious.
In children mild cases may be concealed by longer hair until the child has fully developed and a decision regarding surgery has been taken. If, however, the deformity is obvious, it may be kinder to carry out corrective surgery at an earlier age.
Correction of prominent ears can be performed from five years onwards.
It is important that the surgery is undertaken with the consent of the child and not only the request of the parents. The details of the proposed surgery does vary between individuals and will be carefully discussed with you at your consultation.
